Thanks for great information carringb.

Do you know where I might be able to look up more detail information? I'm assuming they are 12-Volt power based, and that they are not just a backup to a belt-driven compressor for when engine stops at a red light. I'd like to find out as much as possible. Like if motor is 12-Volt DC or does it get powered by inverter. Maybe even variable frequency drive to smooth operation beyond what is possible with engine driven AC compressor.


What I envision for a van like mine is a system that is similar to the Sportsmobile Starcool (think that was right name) but with all Ford factory components.

That's a good question. I'd like to know myself, but I'm on the other side of the Pacific for for a couple weeks, and my only data is my phone, so I'm a little restricted from doing any meaningful research.
