Re: got 5-Star tuned from Mike today!

The misses is driving right now so I can play with the tuner. Working good so far. To much traffic right now to feel power difference yet. Mountains coming up though. I do feel the shift points altered.

Anyone know what the upper safe limit should be for coolant temp on the 2006 V10? Hovering around 195 right now.

I was going to say for anyone messing around with power enhancers is to make sure you have the proper gauges so you don't get too carried away. But the hardest part is keeping your right foot off the skinny pedal. Have fun.

got 5-Star tuned from Mike today!

What Mike needs before he can tune your vehicle is a 4 or so digit code off your ecu, but It sounds like from what Brent is saying things are different with the Ipad interface. Sounds like on the iOS interface the ecu info is captured and Mike accesses it from there.
The tuner I got from him is the older style x3 which looks like a scan tool with an obd2 plug. Even though I have an iPhone and an iPad I didn't want my van tunes to be dependent on ownership of either idevice.
To clear up any confusion, once you change tunes, that tune stays there until you return to stock or cue up another tune. It would make no sense for your vehicle to return to stock tune just by unplugging the device.

Brent, 195 is cool to normal i would say. I get this info from a scangauge but mine stays between 200-210 regardless of outdoor temp or terrain, it's a 5.4 but that shouldn't matter.

Re: got 5-Star tuned from Mike today!

Thoughts so far......

Just got up to Big Bear which is a three hour or so freeway drive from San Diego with an hour of it Climbing the mountain.

I was able to setup up everthing fairly easy. Got the tuner overnight, plugged it in, and sent Mike my engine digits. He replied in the morning via email with Tunes. Download them to the IPad, connected to the tuner via BlueTooth and loaded in the tunes. I picked a tune called PerfTow which is confusing. I thought there was a Tow, Econo and Performance Tune? Is the one I have a combo? Sent Mike an email to clarify but he left for the day.

We pulled out of the driveway and I could feel the shift points were different. The digital gauges worked great for the first 20 minutes until I switched programs to reply to a email. I was unable to reconnect while driving. Continued to get an error message. The tune continued to work but no gauges. Not happy about that. I am be doing something wrong but you should be able to connect while underway.

We stopped at the base of the mountain and it took about 20 minutes to reset everything to get the gauges working on the IPad. Again, the tune was always working.

Everything worked the rest of the way up the mountain and the tune adjustments worked great!

Really like to have Trans Temp monitored and there appears to be aux analog inputs. not sure own those work and when I asked Mike about it he did not seem to know either. Thought that was odd as the product came from him.....

More to report as I learn.....sure I am missing some things.....

Performance tow is your tow tune.
Not sure about your IPad specific features though.
Your tune will not go away unless you choose to change it. Once you are tuned, you are tuned, iPad plugged in or not. (meaning ecu has been rewritten until changed again).

Re: got 5-Star tuned from Mike today!

I could not find mine with the visual inspection so I waited to read the code with the tuner.

I think 86Scotty should have worked out a commission deal.

no doubt Herb!
Na, I don't mind helping. Im not trying to sound like a know-it-all, I just recently did all this.
ECU/ECM code is in a different loc on some vans, but on most it is fairly large print 4-or-so digit code above the drivers side valve cover, kind of hugging the top of the left firewall just left of your air box/intake. It's a black box, lots o wires with a barcode and some letters/numbers on it. Good luck! I had to get Mike to help me track it down over the phone. He is less adapt on the vans than the trucks, but with all the business we seem to be giving him, hopefully he will be up to snuff soon.

Re: got 5-Star tuned from Mike today!

So do I just call or email 5Star and ask for Mike when I want to find out more about their products?
Do I ask for the 86Scotty discount or commision price?

I assume this is the web site.
