Identifying limited slip diff. & gear ratio?

If one was looking to purchase an "experienced" Ford E-250 or 350 Sportsmobile [ I am ] is there a way to determine if it has a limited slip differential [without driving it] and the gear ratio? Markings, placards, stamped numbers, etc?

Thanks,

Trent

Re: Identifying limited slip diff. & gear ratio?

Trent,

Look for the sticker on the driver door jamb. There you will find the axle, ratio, limited slip or not, engine, transmission, color and a couple of other items not usually revealed by the VIN.

Armed with this you'll need a decoder ring found for that year's shop manual. The decoding pages are in the first section of the shop manual. The decoding info may be available elsewhere but I have never been able to locate it outside of the shop manual.

Hope this helps™,
