I used 1/2 to 3/8 straight Barb adapters and the 3/8 fittings on the cooler. Simple. Temp was 225 to 240. Now it never exceeds 162.

Hey, guys just a head's up for those with the Tru-Cool Max cooler but after 3 years mine failed. The mounting was solid and the cooler anchored at all 4 corners. The failure is right at where the lower mount is tack welded on.

There isn't ATF flowing through the base but crushed fins isn't ideal and eventually the failure was going to reach a plate with through-flowing ATF. Maybe I just had bad luck but something to watch out for. Happy trails!

I just installed mine. I was tight on time so I had a local shop do the install. Could be awhile before I test it, but I'll post the results.

It's the fittings that make the TruCool a PIA on a 5R110 transmission. If anyone comes up with part numbers I would be interested.

When I did mine, I tested flow rate because of the assumed restriction on a 6.0 with the 5R110 (lines are 1/2" vs 3/8"). The return flow was the same or even better than with the stock cooler.

flare to barbed connection

I know this goes against the grain but I had a cooler that the instructions said that if you didn't have a flare connection, put the flare end inside the rubber hose and hose clamp it. I did this on a Chevy van with a 4.3 V6 and used it for years with no problem. All those adapters might just open up another chance for a leak too.

3/8" Hose Out of Radiator?

You guys think there would be any problem with just changing the fittings out of the radiator to 3/8" hose barb and going 3/8" hose all the way to and from the new cooler?
More 3/8" hose, but that's what's in the cooler anyway.

I would keep 1/2" hose, because pressure loss is a function of line diameter and distance. So this will have more of an affect than only downsizing at the cooler fittings.

Yeah that's what I was thinking too Carringb. It probably wouldn't make too much of a difference, but pressure loss and volume are critical.
I'm going to install a cooler and will do a lot of checking for fittings to go from the inverted flare to a 1/2" hose barb.
If all else fails, there's always the 3/8 to 1/2 hose adapter. Just hate adding all those hose clamps.
