4 cly twin turbo 2.1L VS 6 cly 3.0 ? Does anyone have experience with either one? Milage, drivable, sometime towing. What about highway cruising? I looking at the smaller Mercedes sprinter 150 van.
Most recent buyers over on the Sprinter Forum seem to prefer the 2.1L inline 4 with its smooth 7 speed auto transmission. Our Sprinter mechanic thinks it's the best Sprinter powertrain yet. Probably 22-25 mpg normal driving, less when towing.
The 3.0L V6 is the only engine option available with 4 wheel drive, and it might be preferable for some heavy and continuous towing applications. Mileage will be about 3 mpg less than the I4, perhaps 5-6 less with both V6 and 4x4 options.
We have a 2015 2.1 7 speed and absolutely are amazed with it. Not 4wd but it has seen some really steep roads. Average 23-24 MPG in all conditions with a box on top. Low roof, penthouse top probably helps over the higher roof. The cross wind assist is amazing. We had an 05 that was a solid work horse but this engine is incredible. On the highway it drives like a car, easy to see everything and stable, smooth, easy to drive. You will be really happy with this engine.
