Re: Need tranny guidance stranded in Bend

Me perosnally. I'd pick the Ford HD one over an Aamco job. The 4R100 is generally a good transmission, other than the POS torque converter Ford stuck behind the 7.3L.

Crap. All replacements are on the east coast and a week out. Time for plan B.

Re: Need tranny guidance stranded in Bend

When my SMB sells, and I buy an 00-03 Excursion, I'll be going to this place to have the trans done.

It's especially cool if you're in the area, as he can remove, rebuild and reinstall the 4R110 in one day, and make it as bulletproof as your wallet allows. Do some searching on John Wood transmissions and you'll find he has a stellar rep. He does receive, rebuild and ship transmissions too if you can't make it onsite.

Re: Need tranny guidance stranded in Bend

If you want a good rebuild, I recommend Phil's transmission in Corvallis. Just a 3-hour tow truck ride away.... But I don't know how backed up they are. I can help with the towing arrangements if that turns out to be a possibility.

Need tranny guidance stranded in Bend

Carringb, thanks for the offer. I appreciate all the help for sure. I had them pull the pan to be sure it was burnt toast. It was. I'm going to wait it out and let them finish the job with the ford hd tranny. John at quadvan was nice enough to offer to come get my trailer for me. We both agreed that this plan is probably the best way to go. At least I have friends here willing to let us use their spare truck.

Thanks everyone for the help especially Greggb. Wright ford installed a ford hd transmission and it shifts great. It still had a noise like wire was wrapped around the drive line. I took to John at quadvan and determined the brand new t case is the culprit. He is replacing under warranty next week. All is new except motor now. Good to go.

That"s good to hear. My new tranny is sounding great, too.
