You are right about dealership's looking for any excuse to back out of any obligations regarding warranty , this A.M. I took my new van to Advantage Ford to have my stock headlights looked at and possibly worked on because of lack of adjustment and the first thing off of the service writers lips was that I would have to take it to Sportsmobile as it was a conversion . I then with a little hostility explained that they were Ford's Stock headlight's and not the Hella Hid's . He was so quick to absolve himself of any warranty that he never heard the word HEADLIGHT'S once in the three times that I said it . I explained to him that GOOD LISTENING is a worthwhile service virtue . He then started complimenting me on the van . Make's me wonder how viable Sportsmobiles claim is with regard to all item's by Ford are under warranty by Ford.
It might be time to try another dealer. I've had my SMB in multiple Ford shops for warranty work, and never had a problem. You can see the warranty work listed below, neither the SMB conversion nor the S-K 4wd has been an issue with any of the work. That includes warranty work done in Canada (injectors), Los Gatos and Santa Clara, CA

04 E-350 Ext. 6.0L PSD 4.10LS 9700# w/driver
Sportsmobile camper conversion w/penthouse top
125W solar panel. Sportsmobile off-road trailer.
Salem Kroger coil spring 4wd conversion - 4" lift
05 F350 front axle and aluminum wheels 275/70-18 tires. 46 Gal tank - harpooned pump vent tube. Scangauge.
162 days in the shop - not counting the 4wd conversion time - Replaced front springs, 2 injectors, Trans housing, 3rd gear, Reverse planetary assy, Turbo, Alternator, Turbo hose fitting, Block Heater, Door lock - all under warranty. AC hose, not under warranty.

I have to agree with Mike. Different dealers handle it in their own way (which pisses me off at times) but some work well with me. I had 2 Ford dealerships basically lie to me about a battery issue claiming non-Ford parts were the problem... of course it was bull, but both blamed the conversion. Others no problems.
About the air filters, I have heard several dairy owners complain of turbo failure from what they think was fine particulate matter getting buy the K&N filters, mainly due to poor maintance (recharging the filter) and causing the turbo failure. But they all eat breakfast at the same place! For now I will not use a K&N filter to be on the safe side. At least until I find out for sure they are better, screw the power. Just my opinion for now.

Interesting story here...

http://www.fourwheeler.com/techarticles ... orque.html

When I was talking about resale, I was referring to the general market. There are a lot of people avoiding the 6.0L and any sign of chipping should be a warning to potential buyers.

Good article Marty. I had heard that the van 6.0's were de-tuned to 275 HP because of restricted air flow compared to the pickups. Reading the article shows stock at 275 not 300+ like I have heard from so many. Maybe I'm missing something. Not sure what RPM's they are testing at.

The 275 is from a chassis dyno(at the wheels). The rated HP is flywheel on a 'bare' engine. You lose some HP through the trans, diff, alternator, A/C, fan etc. Also, you lose some HP due to warm air temperature and air pressure if not at standard or corrected...

The 6.0L PSD was 330 hp (if memory serves me right) for the truck. The 2008 van is rated at 235HP! but 440ft/lb torque...definitely detuned

Not just the 08 vans. Since 04 the 6.0 has been 235HP/440TQ.

Amazingly, that is the same ratings as IH had on that engine in their trucks. Some coincidence!!

At that power level, the engine should be good for 300-400,000 miles or more. IH also had 10,000 oil changes intervals, so I don't feel uncomfortable with 7500 mile oil changes on my van.

To me it seems Ford has raised the power level on the P/U's, not reduced the power on the vans.
