Pitman Arm Nut

Anybody here changed out their E250 steering box? Need to know the size socket needed to remove the Pitman arm nut.

I can't remember if I used a 1 1/4" or 1 3/8" box wrench, but getting the nut off is the easy part of the job. Getting the pitman arm off of the sector shaft is a real PITA. I couldn't get any of my pullers in there with the frame interference. Get the nut off while still on the van and pull the pitman arm once it is removed.

I just now got word its supposedly a 33mm wrench or socket size.

All this will be done at a big truck shop so it'll be almost like a toy to them.

That would make more sense. Everything on the vans since '97 seems to be metric except the radio antennae and outboard suspension (hubs, bolt pattern, wheel studs). '92-'97 was mix of both. Pre-'92 was all standard.

The oddest things turn out to be SAE----I almost automatically dig out the metric tools when working on my '97 and '03 too. Next thing ya know its back digging out more tools!

Most of the heavy suspension stuff seems to be SAE though; springs, shocks, sway bars etc etc.
