Not unbreakable though. Small jump (big water bar) + 50mph+ 15 passengers+ 1500 pounds on the roof + 1000 pounds on the hitch rack + 6,000 pound car hauler hooked to the back of the hitch rack = Broken Dana 70 diff carrier. To its credit, it made the 200 mile drive home but it was sounding pretty sickly at that point. Do that 4 times, and the ProRock 80 would almost pay for itself

Re: PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZZZZZ Santa
I've been looking at various pictures and stories about the ProRock 80, I'm concerned about the compactness of the housing--ie how much oil will it hold? Seems to me heat could be an issue at highway speeds. More oil, less heat?

That's pretty extreme. I can't picture Tom carrying that many passengers or that load.

You might have a valid concern. Oil volume mostly affects how fast if will heat and cool, and short high-HP load (climbing hills) extra oil can keep the temps from climbing as fast. Also.... The thicker casting will also make it reject heat slower.
I'm at the temp limits of my Dana 70. Pulling westbound out of death valley while pulling 15,000 pounds will max out the diff temp gauge. It tends to run about 10-20F hotter than the transmission. If I end up with the trailer I'm leaning towards (another 40' Toy Hauler) I'll probably upgrade to Dana 80.

Re: PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZZZZZ Santa
Make sure you have enough clearance behind the Cover. With the stock axle Dana 60 I only have 1 1/2 " to the AGM Battery Box. (I also have the under floor storage) The Dana 70 is about the same but with the larger Ring Gear. You may have to consider this. The Cast Cover also sticks out further. Measure from the centerline of the Axle to the back of the Cover. Compare that to your existing clearance. I too was drooling for a PRO 80 but went with a Dana 70FF with 35 spline axles and an ARB for about $6k less.

So is there a link to where you can get a Dana 70 for $2k?

Re: PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZZZZZ Santa
NO there is no link. You need to find it yourself and have it reassembled like you want. If you just want to click and ship I would guess it would be about $5K and then there are shock mounts etc. I don't know of anyone doing this for FREE.
I have considered finding another and selling it here. However it wouldn't be $2K.

In addition to concerns over physical clearance, placing any object behind differential can restrict air flow which could then make it run warmer/hotter. Most people think only in terms of restricting air flow upstream like when placing objects in front of something like a cooler or heat exchanger, but blocking flow behind a heat exchanger can also affect heat-transfer performance.
