Pro Comp Xtreme rim busted going down I-15...Bummer
So I did a little trip to Utah this past week and on the way through Vegas somebody pulled up beside me and started pointing at my back tire and telling me I had a flat. I pulled over at the first exit and sure enough my tire was still holding air but was about 90% flat. I thought, okay, at least I'm not riding on the rim. I swapped it out with the spare and was on my way. I just took the tire and the rim to the local shop here expecting to have my tire patched but the only leak we could find was coming out of one of the spokes on the back of the rim. I have never rallied my SMB, have never had it off-road, and have never even engaged the 4x4. Has anybody ever dealt with these rims before. What do you think happened? Over torqued? Warranty?
And I'm trying to figure out my replacement rim. I'm pretty sure it is the 16x8 but I don't know if its the 8 on 170mm or the 8 on 6.5. Here's what i'm looking at:
http://www.4wheelparts.com/Wheels/Serie ... &t_pl=5450
I'm also thinking about just swapping the rims out with the standard ford rims. Similar to the ones geoff has in this pic. I really dig the minimalist look geoff has going on with his rig.
Anybody have a set of these laying around their garage they want to get rid of?
I'd like to get a replacement ASAP because I want to head up to Mammoth this weekend. Thanks for the help guys.

Sorry to hear this. What wheel was it exactly that failed on you?
Lug pattern is 8 on 6.5.

What's up adventureduo? It was the Passenger side Rear. It has been holding air fine since I bought it and I even recently checked the air in all the tires before I took off last week. I guess it won't be too expensive to replace but I'm really toying with the idea of putting on the old school wheels. Do you think it may have been over torqued? What torqued should it be? Just trying to figure out why this "extreme" wheel failed.

I thought it was around 105-110 foot pounds. Who tightened the lug nuts last? What model of wheel was it?

Not sure who tightened the wheels last. I haven't messed with them. They are the Pro-comp Xtreme. I think this model: PXA7289-6882. They are the ones on the van in my gallery pics.

They are rated at 3400 lbs which I believe is in the range of E load tires. If that is the case and they are truely those rims and not some 2200 lb knock offs, then I'd go with manufacturing defect.
Have you contacted Pro-comp (or I guess 4 Wheel Parts who owns the brand)?

Yep, sounds like you get a free wheel - if you want to run them again.

SMB usually recommends 140 foot-pounds torque for lugnuts on alloy rims.
SMB surely must have some stock ford wheels there. Make a call.
Custom wheels are commonly cast aluminum, and can have voids or inclusions in the castings. It's probably under warranty. It's rare, but happens.

I'm still happy with my minimalist look, but a wheel issue I just came across (other than tire size limitations) is that the stock steel wheels have no holes in them to insert one of those nifty Hi-Lift Jack LM100 Lift Mates:

I'm really digging the minimalist look myself geofff and I mean that. Your rig truely is an inspiration to me. I took the jack and ax off of the front and got rid of the satellite dish. I'm toying with doing the following things to tone it down a bit:
Stock wheels
Remove the lights on the front
Get rid of the ladder (this will happen for sure, it's just a matter of time)
Remove all the door steps and replace them with a low profile nerf bar.
Removing the Sportsmobile decals.
The bumpers are a little much for me as well but I like having a winch and the box on the back so they'll probably make the cut. Plus they look heavy.
So like I said, if anybody has some stock rims laying around the garage I'd be more that happy to take them off of your hands.
