Back for an update.

We survived our trip to Idaho without AC. Luckily temps were below normal for both the drive up there and back. During the morning drives we could keep the windows closed, use the vents and listen to the radio. In the afternoons as temps rose, the van was noticeably cooler with the windows open, but of course that made listening to the radio futile.

When I got home I brought the van to Alouis Radiator, the shop recommended by Ray, and it was fixed in two days. One day to identify problem and order part (new evaporator) and another to install it. My van is cool again.

Will probably use them for future repairs and maintenance rather than the Ford dealer.

Pic of the evaporator:

Actually just in time for another rafting trip to Idaho later this month. Wish it would have worked out for us to just stay up there for the month of July. We have a friend in Boise we could have left the rafting gear with while exploring more of Idaho, but we had previous plans that required us to be back home.

Thanks for the Alouis tip.

Good news then---glad this was sorted out. If anything your ordeal with the uninterested dealership is why I'll recommend similar issues should be left in the hands of shops dedicated to that system.

Even though most of us thought it was likely the evaporator it was best having professionals take a look. Too bad a lot of Ford dealerships are not professionals!

Can we ask what the full and final price was for all this?

I'm happy with the outcome and their price.
