Re: RPM's at Cruising Speed

Can't compare with those numbers, I never drive that fast.

How about 1780 rpm @ 60mph?

Mike

Re: RPM's at Cruising Speed

I did...that's why my insurance is so high. OK I'll go out and try it on Friday but just for a little bit. Think the CHP will take that for a excuse?

Re: RPM's at Cruising Speed

I think you are geared too tall.
I think 2200 @ 60 would have the V10 in better power.
My '10 V10, 4.10's, same size tires & 5 sp auto seems to be turning the 2200 @ 60 (I'll re-check).
I feel it is still too tall (and thats before I am pulling a trailer).
Its my opinion that 4.56's are a better choice for the rev happy V10 & those size tires.

Re: RPM's at Cruising Speed

j.whitbread, what kind of mileage are you getting? At 60mph you must be below 2000 rpm's. Do those low RPM's get you better mileage with a V-10, or does it still stay around 10 MPG?

Our oil burners are only going to be compared to each other but I'll post it anyway.

Re: RPM's at Cruising Speed

Mileage? What's that? I haven't gotten 10 miles per gallon since I've owned it. Ok, once on a long trip using the 'econo-tune' on my 5-Star tuner, I got 13.3 mpg, but I was in the way on the highway and the performance wasn't there. Since then I use the performance tune and put gas in it. I have all the gas records from date of purchase: 7/07. $18,709 in gas to push me 65000+ miles. About .29 cents a mile?

Gearing? With 4.10's and 285's, crawling around in 4-low I could use a lower gear. The 285's made a big difference compared to the stock Hankook's from Quigley. I agree a lower gear set would improve crawling and torque at towing speeds. I don't do much towing, and my van weights under 8000lbs travel weight.

It seems to me from everything I hear and read on mileage for the V10, it's going to get almost the same mileage no matter what.

Re: RPM's at Cruising Speed

I would guess:

60mph 1900rpm
65mph 2060rpm
70mph 2220rpm
75mph 2375rpm
80mph 2500rpm

Assuming he is staying in the same gear.

So I guess my question would be do you think you would still get about 10MPG with lower gears? If I were going for a V-10 package, I would jump on the lower gearing if it really didn't affect the mileage that much, especially when going with taller tires/rims.

[EDIT] 2000 RPM @ 65MPH in my 6.0 diesel.

Daveb - This is an excellent point! Your statement settles all the questions about gearing the V10.

I see a lower gear set in my future. AND, I will be posting pics of the new Gear Vendors overdrive I'm having installed at Gear Vendors in El Cajon. I pick it up today.

I might be able to accomplish the best of both worlds. Good crawling gears, and reasonably low RPM at cruising speeds.

The Final Drive Ratio shows you how many times the engine turns for one complete turn of the tires.

Re: RPM's at Cruising Speed

At 70 I am abut 2000 - 2100 RPM. I have a V-10 with 305/70/16 and a 4.10 rear.
