Starter motor upgrade (6.0 to 6.4)???

I've read numerous suggestions in several threads suggesting replacing a 6.0 Starter to the 6.4 Starter. I've done several searches (forum & google) and dont seem to be able to locate the information I need.
Have a 2006 E-350 Sportsmobile with a 6.0. would like to do this swap, but i keep getting asked which model or serial number 6.4 starter...
Dealer is of little help, and doesn't seem any shop around me has done this before so they are apprehensive in ordering something that "may not work".

Here is where I need advise: Can I just order an OEM Starter for a 2010 6.4 motor from the Dealer - and that would be a direct fit replacement? Or is there a specific year i need to request?
***cant imagine there is any difference between Starter Motors for the years they manufactured the 6.4 - think the real issue for these folks is a guarantee from me that its a direct replacement with no modifications needed.
Thanks in advance to all that may respond.

I have a 6.4 starter in my 6.0. Plug and play and one of the better upgrades IMO. Part# is 7C3Z-11002-AA

I went OEM from Autonation. Price has increased a bit to $440. Still pricey but you might also consider the Mean Green. Mean Green 6.4L Starter (AMAZING 6.0L UPGRADE!!!)

I avoid the big box stores on starters and alternators.

I have been looking at this one for my 6.0, claims to be more powerful that the factory 6.4 starter:

That's supposed to be a good unit and Cory from CNC won't steer you wrong. That's probably the way I will go if my starter goes again.

Thank you all for your replies - have touched base with the Shop and they have ordered and are installing (using an OEM for a 6.4 since they have one in-stock). Have to say the Mahle looks like a winner, unfortunately I dont have the time to wait for shipping - just bad timing.

Seems I have another shot at a new Starter...Service Tech called me this morning to let me know they have a New (not remanufactured) OEM 6.4 starter for $820... that's crazy!
Guess fate has intervened - ordered the Mahle which was recommended.

Ouch! I believe the Mahle unit is made in Germany.

Thought it prudent to post a follow up for those that may visit this thread down the line - Did receive the Mahle starter (only 7 days from initial order) but just got around to having it installed.
First time starting was unbelievable (I certainly wasn't prepared for what happened) - sounded like a dremel tool at high speed, don't believe I've ever had a starter turn over an engine that quickly.

Awesome sounds like you’re happy with it. It’s on my list of upgrades for this summer. Thanks for the update
