The Full Badger

Since my transmission coolers and under bumper scoop were so successful--see my award winning expose: viewtopic.php?f=39&t=8542--I may have gotten a bit cocky. I've gone the full Badger(trek) on my rig in the hopes of getting it to run cooler. I added some large hood vents to get hot air out of the engine compartment and some cool side vents others have used. We shall see...

The hood vents are these: http://www.hoodlouvers.com/products.html

They are high quality and conform to the shape of the hood, plus they supplied black rivets which look better IMO. Since the hoods are double thickness, I used a white urethane adhesive to glue the inner and outer layers together where I made the cuts.

Re: The Full Badger

What is the auxiliary antenna coming out of your hood ornament used for?

If you look in the previous picture that aux antenna is not there. Looks like a rod of some sort leaning against the door frame. Funny juxtaposition!

I don't know if he even exists. If he doesn't, we'll have to invent him.

Re: The Full Badger

Curious to see if it helps. Test it by running a stretch of highway with the vents open and then do it again with them taped shut?

Re: The Full Badger

Are the hood vents designed to keep water out?

Water=grief if it keeps dripping on top of the engine.

They're not over the engine.

Good point.

Now that I think about it, I can see the vents are more to the front of the engine. I can see the cooling advantages of having a constant drip of water hitting your fan blades. It would create a fine mist inside your engine compartment and the effects of evaporitve cooling should lower engine compartment temps. Keeping things wet inside the engine compartment would also keep dust from building up in your alternator. I bet a damp serpentine belt would also be less prone to squeeking.

Re: The Full Badger

I don't think much water will get in there while moving--the louvers are aimed towards the windshield. Maybe some when it's sitting.
