Thoughts: Ran out of Fuel!

I'm ashamed to say my 7.3 Diesel ran out of fuel last week The aftermarket 37 gallon tank does not work well with the original fuel gauge and I pushed it too far. Van started to stutter and I yanked it to the side of the road and turned it off. Got some fuel in her and she started right up, but stuttered for a miniute or so, assuming perging the air from the system. She then was rough for about 10 min of driving, but after that seems all good.

Issue: Engine noise does not sound quite right to my ear at low RPM and speeds. Sounds a bit rough and like it might want to cut out, but never does or has any issues. Other thing I noticed is that the cruise control is really weird now, and always worked fine before. Now while the CC is the van is real jerky, meaning it is like you are tapping the gas over and over. No issues driving nice and smooth on the highway without the CC.

Thoughts??? I'm worried about my baby.

(FYI: Van has over 243,000 miles, but ran perfectly before this incident. Have driven over 700 miles since the incident.)

Re: Thoughts: Ran out of Fuel!

I don't know about the 7.3, but running out of fuel can kill injectors on a 6.0.

Look for more information on this site:

http://www.thedieselstop.com/forums/f24/

That site is devoted to 7.3L PSDs.

Re: Thoughts: Ran out of Fuel!

Well our shop guys don't think the fuel issue has anything to do with the cc surge. They also don't think you did any damage...I know it has happened several time here with our fleet trucks.
