Re: Twogone in Page with new fan- clutch always engaged

Back home now. Very aggravating fan clutch. Final analysis: 1800 miles stuck 1:1 with the engine RPM. Ran correctly on approach to Page, AZ dealership. Spoke w/shop... decided to keep trying since it was running correctly. (Lots of detail left out here) ran correctly for 2400 miles all through Yosemite, Kings Canyon, Thousand Oaks, Big Bear, Pacific Coast, San Diego, blah X 3.

Last 1300 miles, stuck in mid-range, will spinout and run right if held out of OD and run at high RPM for 1-2 mins. Made a special trip to Jeff's Repair, Brinkley AR (specializes in diesel, has Union Pacific RR as client, for example) on the way home. He gave a thorough analysis that culminated in a recommendation to replace with a specific part# from a specific aftermarket manufacturer. Sez MotorCraft is 2 x the $ so they sit too long on the shelf, and get "sticky". After I have gone through fluid/filter/brake maintenance locally, I'll take it back to Jeff (2.5 hrs) to get him to make the change. Haven't discussed the warranty stuff w/dealership yet. I now know more about my fan clutch than I know about Christine.

A cheaper solution might just to be plan all your trips toward a dealership, then it will work perfectly all the time.
