What air filters are best?

I am wanting to get rid of my drop in K&N filters in my 03 7.3L, after reading many posts of their inherent shortcomings, I don't want to risk it. I have noticed the oil residue buildup on the intake tube, and they are once again pretty clogged up, before I do any damage to the turbo by sucking in any unwanted oil and debris, I am wanting to go back to paper filters, but which ones are best? Napa gold, wix, oem motorcraft.....Whats everyone using? I want to stock up and order a box

Re: What air filters are best?

I would stick with OEM filters. I have had problems with even WIX filters fitting properly. Nothing like have the original blueprints when you design a part to fit an engine. All too often aftermarket filter are designed from and OEM filter or the filter holder and may not properly fit the full range of tolerance buildups.

The OEM filters may be pricier, but they seem to last a long, long time and I can't see saving $5 and jeopardizing the engine.

Re: What air filters are best?

I don't know if there's one for the E-series but Ford has a severe duty air filter setup for the 7.3L. It does replace the entire air filter housing too, so its pricey too start with. Its the AIS setup.

Re: What air filters are best?

I don't think there are any options for air boxes for the vans, I've looked, other than a custom setup. I ended up going with napa gold paper filters for the stock box, wix makes them, around $12/ea., I used a 20% online coupon to bring that down to @$9/ea., got a box of 6. We'll see how they do.....

Re: What air filters are best?

In my Landcruiser i had an dry "paper" airfilter wich was washable (with water!) airfilter. It was best you can imagine if you drive a lot in dusty areas like Afrika.
Is there something like this for the E-Series on the market?
