Re: What kind of tire are YOU running?

I have the Toyo Open Country A/T's in LT 285-75 -17. This is a 34" OD with a max load rating of 3970#s. They are E series 10 ply tires. I have been very happy with them. I've had them in snow, mud, dirt, pavement, washboard, etc. oclv

OC,

I can't find Toyo listing the tire you describe....

I find an AT that is 285/70-17 rated at 2833lbs at 35psi
and
I find an MT that is 285/75-17 rated at 3195lbs at 80psi

What am I missing?

Same size and tire as before, but E load rated versus the previous D rated. More stable ride.

Same as Herb....no problems to date even with the D's. 11.5K + weight since day one. E's were not available during the construction.

Re: What kind of tire are YOU running?

There was an article on "Choosing Tires: The Five Step Program" in the May 2008 Off-Road Adventures magazine. I think this is the 4-Wheel Parts magazine.

Step 1 : Tread Rightly (tread choice)
Step 2 : Load Rating (load rating choice)
Step 3 : Size Does Matter (size for height and traction choice)
Step 4 : Wheel Rightly (matching to wheels)
Step 5 : Let's Be Practical Here (expense)

There is also a nice diagram of all the significant measurements and attributes for wheels.

I have saved the article and will scan it and uploaded if it is desired.

Re: What kind of tire are YOU running?

What is up with that?

That seems like Toyo is changing the ratings, that is two or three different sets of stats for what seems like the same tire.... unless it is somehow not the same tire...

Is Toyo the actuall manufacturer? or are they selling tires that are made by others?

Angel, Can you find your tire on the Toyo website?

Re: What kind of tire are YOU running?

Greg,
Yes. I see the spec pdf you are looking at. You need to look on page 30. The tires that OCTV and I have are under "specialty" (not "P-Metric/Metric")

Re: What kind of tire are YOU running?

My tires are still listed on the Toyo website. The Product code seems to have been changed, but all the specs are the same. I chose the LT 285-75-R17 because for a while there was discussion as to which tires were better, 33" or 35". This size was 34" so I figured I would be right in the middle. Also, with a 410 rear end, I could go to 356 gearing and be right back to exactly the equivilent of 410 with the new 34" tires. oclv
