What kind of transmission do i have?

I own a 2003 ford e350 q4wd.

I am guessing that it is a 4r70w or a 4r100.

I would like to add some atf, and not sure if i should add the mercon or mercon v.

my guess is that it is a 4r100, which takes the regular mercon.

There should be a "Vehicle Certification Label" stuck to your driver door with this information. (Starts with title, "MFD. BY FORD MOTOR CO", and has a barcode.)

At the bottom of the sticker, you have various info, such as axle ratio ("AXLE") and transmission ("TR"). Here are the transmission codes (as listed in my 2004 Ford E-Series manual, but I think they're the same in other models):

5 — 4R75W
B — 5R110
E — 4R100
U — 4R70W

I looked at the sticker you are talking about and found a 9 in the TR section.

	9—Four-speed automatic with overdrive (4R100), diesel engine

2001, 2002, 2003:
	9—Four-speed automatic (4R100), diesel only 
	E—Four-speed automatic overdrive (E4OD/4R100), gas only 
	U—Four-speed automatic overdrive (AODE/4R70W)

2004:
	5—Four-speed automatic overdrive (4R75W) 
	B—Five-speed automatic overdrive (5R110/Hi-Torque), diesel 
	E—Four-speed automatic overdrive (4R100) 
	U—Four-speed automatic overdrive (4R70W)

2005:
	A—Four-speed automatic overdrive (4R70E) 
	B—Four-speed automatic, TorqShift, (4R75E), diesel 
	F—Four-speed automatic overdrive (4R75E) 
	T—Five-speed automatic overdrive (5R110W)

Looks like you have the 4R100. Diesel, right?
