What oil for the NV271 tranny?

Hey folks, i was googeling what oil is used in the NV271 transfer case. I found that some says mercron, some take engine oil....
So what is the right one or what do you recommend and How often to you change it?

Mercon. Not Mercon-V.

Ford rebranded it as "Transfer Case" fluid but all of the parts chains still sell old fashioned Mercon fluid, often labeled "DEX/MERC".
