A/C, Floor, Vent, Defrost selector quit.

My environmental air control knob quit. That's what I call it anyway. The switch used to select vent, floor, A/C, etc. went on strike. Everything works, just doesn't come out of the correct vent. It all comes out of a mixture of floor and defrost whether it's heat or A/C. I'm thinking this may be a failed default position. I replaced the switch with no help.

Anyone ever have this problem? Any ideas? Think I'm looking for a vacuum leak now???

Thanks,

tom.

Re: A/C, Floor, Vent, Defrost selector quit.

Usually that means you have a vaccuum leak. Or the vaccuum pump quit.

Were you in 4wd? Sometimes the autolok hubs or plumbing has a leak (like my tube with a hole in it from rubbing on the tire).

In 2wd, a vaccuum leak could be many, many places.

Good luck,

Mike

Nope, no 4WD. In fact the van was sitting. Got in for a trip and noticed it after we got under way. Oh crap, I bet it's pack rats. We battle them constantly here in AZ.

Yup. That's the default when you lose vacuum. I've heard form others that rodents go for those lines sometimes.

Actually I meant to put in a Ratzapper. It needs AC power[Edit, Herb says DC] to run so it's a tool for when the van is not in use but a friend claims they work well.

My Rat Zapper works off batteries (4 D cells).

OK Herb I gots to know....does it work? How do you bait it? I never asked my buddy on info. He told me to buy one after my little 15 mouse visit. Just hate to spend that much if it don't work.

Re: A/C, Floor, Vent, Defrost selector quit.

We had some local tree rats decide to start hanging around the outside of our house earlier this year. The instructions say with rats you have to leave the trap in place for a few days so the rats get used to it (mice aren't that picky). We got three rats in three days. We've gotten more since. In a few instances we couldn't figure out how the bait was dissapearing when we emptied the trap of the dead rat, and then figured out another rat would walk over the dead body of the first rat, take the bait and then leave.

Very easy and neat clean up too. Just tip the trap into the garbage. I didn't even realize that RatZapper was headquartered in my town until after I bought one.

Thanks. sound like a good device to keep on board until you leave but I suppose you have to check it daily at least.
