A/C just up and quit? Fuse?
So I was driving my wonderful SMB in Moab this weekend, hanging out with some ol' Ohio folk, catchin' up, drinkin' some brews and having a good time around a camp fire. All while they were in awe of my still kind of new to me SMB. On the way back to Zion I turned on the A/C, even though I usually prefer to drive with the windows down and the music blasting even when it is 100 degrees out. Anyway, the A/C blew cold for about 5 minutes like it has in the past but all of a sudden it started blowing vent temperature air. I messed with it on both settings but still couldn't get it to come on. I looked in the owners manual and the fuse to the A/C is the same one that runs the cluster and radio....Those are working fine. Is it possible that the A/C is hooked up to another fuse that I don't know about. Any help would be greatly appreciated....Thanks

Veg Hed, pop the hood and check to see if the compressor is turning. If so, sounds like you'll need a recharge. If it's not spinning, probably is a fuse. I'm no help there. If it's not in the owners manual, I wouldn't know where to look. Mine needed a recharge at 12,000 miles.

Re: A/C just up and quit? Fuse?
My compressor went out, luckily under warranty because it blew chunks of metal into the system... same symptoms, just suddenly no cold in the A/C... it was 120° in the shade and a long hot weekend waiting for the dealer.
I chose not to drive it, but the damage was done and it probably wouldn't have been an issue.

Re: A/C just up and quit? Fuse?
I had a similar issue last fall while driving cross country. The first symptom I noticed was a lot of oil coating the underside of the van. This, of course, happened shortly after I had an oil and lube done at Speedco while on the road. I figured they must have forgotten or broke something, but in checking all of my fluids and such, everything was okay.
It wasn't until I hit the eastern humidity and tried the A/C with no luck that I realized the oil must have come from the A/C system. I did all of the fuse checks to be sure, and took a look at the compressor to see if the clutch was engaging. Fuses were OK, clutch was not engaging. My guess is that if the system has evacuated, there is a pressure sensor that won't allow the compressor to operate. This saves the compressor when the original problem is a blown hose, as was my case.
Luckily mine was still under warranty too. Good luck with yours.

Re: A/C just up and quit? Fuse?
I turned the van on today and checked the compressor with the A/C switch on. The compressor was not turning so on a hunch I grabbed the wires on top of the compressor and realized that they were really loose, actually unplugged. I plugged them back in, the compressor started turning and low and behold, ice cold air again. Turned out to be an easy fix even though I was stressing out about it...

Maybe I should go check my wires, because I've never ever had ice cold air!
