Aftermarket penthouse lifters

Does anyone have information on how these things work?

Does anyone use one of these units?

I'm thinking that a large thule box filled with gear and 3 surf boards will be nearly impossible to lift.

Anyone have a perspective?

Sportsmobile offers this aftermarket Penthouse lifter for around $500.

I'm surprised that nobody has any awareness of this product offered by SMB.

So you are referring to the electric penthouse top that Sportsmobile offers correct. I was thrown by term aftermarket in the thread. I have the electric penthouse top, and if you are expecting to put anything on your top over 75 lbs I think Sportsmobile recommends it. The electric option will get you up to 300 lbs (I think). My only concern is if it dies in the up position, and fully loaded., it is going to be a bear to get down, It looks like the actuators have quick release pins so you out to be able to pull the pins and hope you have enough people to let the thing down safely. Attached some pictures of the actuators, you can find them at http://www.techline.linak.com/Products/?id2=592

Greg,

Thanks for posting those photos. Now I at least have some idea of how they are set up.

I was checking out the manuals.

Do you think it's the Model LA31 EL?
On the bottom of the manuals lists the voltage specs and most of them are 24Volts!

Wonder how they are converting it to 24Volts from Sportsmobile factory.

I also saw the LA36 has a manual hand crank behind a plastic cover using a Allen key..

You know if they aren't converting it that might explain why the electric PH goes so slow...
