I thought about this a few years ago. SMB west said that the hole required was to large for the penthouse top. Would work OK on a fixed top however. Adds lots of moisture to the interior of the vehicle however.

I saw a class A flat towing a Ford Explorer once. The Ford Explorer had a window a/c unit mounted, only it was one of the really big ones (4000 BTU maybe). It was so big they had it mounted in the rear side window over the driver's side rear tire. It stuck out at least a foot- I wish I'd gotten a picture.

It was a nice Class A in front too, and not that old of explorer- not the kind of thing you expect to see with relatively nice/new vehicles.

Petcool might make a good SMC alternative to Starcool.

- I should fit in a cabinet and can be mounted outside or mounted inside.
- If mounted inside, it can be vented through the floor and be a supliment ac to the van AC.
- If mounted outside, should be a lot quieter than Starcool. It might fit underneath.
- It can also be removable, saving space during nice weather.

The only negative/positive is that it is a little small at 2500 btu.
- Would likely be great for nighttime.
- Power is only 380 watts and can run on battery/solar or a small 1000 watt generator

It also functions as a heater.

sportsmobile now lists Danhard AC on options page sheet and
not starcool. it says will run up to an hour on battery.

this is on sportsmobile website on the updated options sheet done in
december.

the rest of the site still mentions starcool.

Here are a couple portable units that I am considering. Has anyone tried these?? http://www.swampy.net/ Especailly the MW1 or T154 units. Our new to us Sportsmobile doesn't have any rear air conditioning, and it is the Ford medium green color, so I expect it will be a little warm in the desert in the summer. oclv
