Asymmetric penthouse lift and retract

Haven't used the penthouse too much in the 1½ years we've had the Sprinter conversion. Last week we were lowering the top and when it got about 2/3 down the left side suddenly went all the way down while the right side continued down at the normal leisurely pace. Now when we raise it the right side goes up smoothly, but the left side doesn't do much until the other side is about halfway up, then it tries to catch up. It almost makes it. The limit switch trips as normal, but the left side is slightly less than fully extended. It can be pushed up all the way by hand and it stays in place.

What's up with this?

Tom

Re: Asymmetric penthouse lift and retract

I'd call SMB. I've heard of similar issues in the past and its usually something you'd rather have them repair. If you don't live near a factory shop, SMB might pay to have it repaired at a different facility. If it's something like a bolt shearing, iit might be an easy fix they can walk you through, then again, it might not be something you want to tackle. Myself I would operate it with caution. No sense compounding the problem. Hopefully it didn't bend one of the bars.
