Buying Dynamat?

I need some Dynamat or something similar- A local sound shop has 20 sqft "Trunk Kit" for $139 and a 36 sqft. "Bulk" for $224, which is like $6-8/sqft.

I'm looking on eBay but I'm finding a lot of product rip offs ("REIN Mat") instead.

I'm looking to do the doghouse and fridge-
how much do I need for the doghouse?
where is a good place to buy?
what's a good price?

also how thick should I look for?

I found this company when I was looking into Dynamat ... haven't bought anything from them yet but the prices look lower than what you have found so far.

Good luck

i got some Dynamat Extreme from Crutchfield when I ordered my new head unit/speakers. I ended up getting the Door kit I think , it had enough for the doghouse and I still have about 1/4 - 1/3 leftover and was only around 89.00 or so. the fridge could be a good idea w/ some of my leftovers. What do you need to remove to slide the fridge out? Is it the black metal trim??

Cheers,

D

I'm planning a fridge pull write up, but basically you remove the bottom grill then pry off the side molding from metal tabs, then there are 4 screws. That's the 4 cf model. I'm sure the 3cf is similar.

The best price I found locally for the 20 sqft trunk kit was $149 and I ordered it from hifisoundconnection for $85.63 shipped, with a roller.

Thanks WanderDog!

Now I have to wait on the big brown box truck.

Hey WanderDog let me know if and when you buy from hifi - they gave me a $5 coupon you can have (for $100 or more orders though)

Just a little bit of experience to pass on. I have one layer of "fat-mat" inmy cockpit above that a layer of dynamat extreme, and above that the dynaliner. On the 'dog-house' I have two layers of extreme and a hoodliner, and in the rest of the van "fat-mat" and spots of dynamat.

DO NOT use fat-mat. I got it on ebay at a much lower price then dynamat and all was well until I wanted to add the dynaliner when I found that in the spots it heated up the fat mat was melted. Multiple spots, a lot of melting and next to impossible to get up. Beware of cheaper sunbstitutes for dynamat.

The difference before and after, is significant, it is still a little noisier then I want; but it is a diesel van. The hoodliner is a must, it rocks and it cuts down on the temp on the floorboards by 100%. Any help I can give drop me a line.

I used rubber flashing with aluminum backing to soundproof my previous car. It is designed to seal roofing, so it should not melt....although I would always keep rubber material from very hot areas. You can get it in rolls at any home supply shop.

Nate -

Could you detail a little more where you put the Hoodliner to cut down heat. Although I'd love to cut noise down a little more, I really want to knock down the heat transfer into the cab from the engine & exhaust. That is my next project to tackle.

Thanks -
Phil
