Re: Composting toilet
I looked at a Nature's Head toilet. The urine goes into a plastic bottle, the poop drops into a bin with some peat moss, and in theory, it gets broken down.
The good:
Very limited stuff to dump out. The urine bottle can be emptied on a toilet or another sanitary source.
No water needed, so no need to worry about winterizing.
In theory, the poop bin can be emptied out as dirt.
The bad:
It appears messy to empty out the poop bin.
You have to have bags of peat moss to kick-start the chemical reactions and replace them every time the bin is emptied.
The ugly:
The cost.
The fact that I've not seen spare parts, so if the urine bottle leaks or the poop bin breaks, that may be expensive.
Instead, I wonder about just a European style cassette toilet as a compromise.
