I will say my D4 runs noticeably louder when set close to high on the thermostat than when running on low. But still way quieter than a generator. On a lower setting, my van stays around 60-70* with the top up when the outside temps are around 40* and I can barely hear it. Mine does make a clicking fuel pump noise that seems to bother some people's sleeping. I have yet to have issues with the screen gathering soot, but I always run it on high for 15 minutes before total shutdown. I also run a Cetane fuel additive. I usually bunk up top and always leave windows cracked in the PH and by the fridge.

Check out Wallas as well. Based on my experience with sailboats I can barely hear my Wallas as I row up to my boat, I can hear others' Espars and Webastos from across the anchorage.
