filter for my portable freezer /fridge

I bought some foam filter material and taped it over the opening for my dometic 's compressor fan. It is between the front seats and I worry about the fan getting too dirty from the constant in and out of the vans side door. I let it run like that for a night then got freaked out about the added stress on the fan from pulling air through the filter. The intake is on the floor by the passenger chair right near the side door. What do you think will kill it first. The extra stress or the inevitable dirt?

Probably neither. The heat rejection efficiency of the heat exchanger will be more of an issue. The HX is designed to reject a specific amount of heat at a given air flow. The filter will reduce the air flow and therefor the fan will need to run longer to to cool the fridge.

The fan pulling in dust and dirt is a certainty but you are correct that the fridge did run(cycle on) longer with the filter on.Maybe I should place a baffle of some sort between fridge and walkway. It appears that the whole bottom of the fridge can be removed to get to it but nothing in the manual.

If dust was a problem I would think my refrigerator would have failed long ago. I got a electric leave blower and just blast it out from time to time.

Daveb is had the right idea. It is like your home refrigerator, you just need to keep he dust bunnies that collect on he HX from collecting. A quick vacuum will improve he efficiency.
