Look for a Truckfridge.

Re: Fridge Broke?

We put too many uncooled drinks in our original Norcold once and had the same problem...it just couldn't recover.

Now, even with our Isotherm, I hook up to shore power and turn on the frig to the maximum in the evening, a day and a half before our planned departure. Everything that will be loaded into the frig is precooled in the refrigerator in the kitchen. After it cools down the evening before we leave, we load the frig in the van, doing it as quickly as possible and then reset the switch to Run. That gives the Isotherm time to recover overnight. While on a trip when we need to add bottles of water or more drinks, we never add more than 2-3 at a time and again try to do that in the evening.

Re: Fridge Broke?

My normal procedure is cool it down either overnight, or for a few hours while driving. Everything that goes in is cold. So that's not my issue.

Re: Fridge Broke?

When SMB pulled my old fridge they set it on its side and then it started working after they set it back up and applied power. You might give it a try. I sure wouldn't put another Norcold back in. I might even be doing a change of the new one here soon. The new Norcolds aren't as power efficient compared to the old ones.

Re: Fridge Broke?

Finally had a chance to pull he fridge. It was pretty remarkably clean back there. All connections looked good, fan was working, so I guess maybe it's something worth the fridge. Worth trying to diagnose and replace components? Or throw out?

Re: Fridge Broke?

Some of these need to be "burped". Remove the unit, turn it upside down and let it sit for 24 Hours and re-install.
I don't know what this does but it fixed my dometic.

So after simply pulling it out and checking connections and making sure it was clean, it now works much better. Didn't run nearly as much this past weekend. It's fixed!?

Interesting, maybe I will try that if I have the same issue again.

Re: Fridge Broke?

It's an old camper trick and it does often work.

Re: Fridge Broke?

That trick worked for like a week.. now I am back to it running way too much and drawing down the battery.

So now what?

Truckfridge 12v "24 watts/hour" so theoretically a 2 amp draw
Truckfridge 12v/120v "24 watts/hour"
Norcold 12v/120v couldn't find any draw info, but I think daveb was displeased with his new one
Engel 12v "Variable from 0.5 - 2.7Amps (12V DC)"
Engel 12v/120v "Variable from 0.5 - 2.7Amps (12V DC)"

Dometic doesn't seem to make that small form factor in anything other than 3 way..
