Re: heat

Not sure if this is the best place to post this, but....
Anyway, I just bought, and installed, a muffler for my Espar furnace.
Nice unit, all stainless steel and includes two stainless clamps for
the inlet and outlet.

Here's a top view:

And a side view:

I got it from Greg at Lubrication Specialist, LLC for $55. He's the guy
to call if you have any questions on your Espar. Very knowledgeable,
good prices and fast shipping.

Well, the bottom line, did it work?? You betcha!!! When on high you
can still hear it, but nothing like the jet afterburner from before.
WAY quieter!! Once you lower the furnace from high, it's very quiet.
Great mod and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

If you're talking about the muffler Finn, you can fit it on any setup. For what it's worth, mine is an '07, RB50 layout. I just cut a section out of the exhaust tube under the van and put the muffler right in. I made a little bracket to hold the muffler to the body as the little Espar exhaust tube isn't strong enough to hold up the muffler in my humble opinion.

Re: heat

That seems like a worthwhile upgrade I'll have to check if it will fit. Now I just need a muffler for my fridge, a muffler for the wife's snoring, the crying babies etc etc

Re: heat

Since this thread has become the "Heat" thread I'll add a couple things. I've placed links to all the Webasto Airtop 2000 manuals I could find to the Sportsmoble Wiki.
http://wiki.sportsmobileforum.com/in...itle=Documents

Got a response from Webasto to a question I had concerning fuel metering/dosing pump. The instructions weren't clear about if you could position the pump above the level of the heater. The answer is no. If the pump is higher than the heater you might get a air bubble in the fuel line.

For the question I used the email address info@webasto-us.com. They got back to me within one day.

Re: heat

In case anyone is interested my mini controller was bad. I pulled the unit and sent it to Greg at lubrication specialists. They bench tested it, tuned it up and sent me an updated thermostat that you can actually set the desired temperature.

Getting it re installed and re fired was not fun. The more I work on this van I'm surprised at how shoddy some of the workmanship is for such an expensive vehicle. Of course I wouldn't trade it for anything except maybe a brand new one.

Re: heat

Hey Scatter . . .
I was thinking about a muffler for my hydronic side, thinking the furnace side wasn't too loud. If I read your post correctly, it looks like you added one to your furnace, even though the furnace is much quieter than the hydronic in general. Do you have a hydronic unit? with a muffler ? IF so, I assume that was even a bigger difference?
Thanks,

Re: heat

I have the Espar Airtronic furnace and that is what I put the muffler on. Don't have hydronic. I don't beleive the muffler is designed for that unit only and could be put on anything where a little additional back pressure is not a factor. Depends on your exhaust pipe diameter. Whatever, it's a nicely made unit and sure has quieted down my furnace.

Re: heat

I have the muffler for the Hydronic....it's a must item to have unless you want to hear something like the space shuttle launching.
