Re: How do you do laundry on the trail? - this device looks

I reuse clothing for multiple days and after a few weeks worth of backcountry sweat, I will just run into town and use a laundromat and get a coffee if I really need to do laundry that bad.

I agree with others: If I have clean underwear and socks, I'm happy. I just wear outer clothes in rotation. Saves a lot of room in the duffle bag. Wife does similar.

Another thing we do is bring two pairs of shoes/boots. Alternating shoes every day or so makes me feel better.

Never been gone for more than 10 days on a trip, but if I did, I'd just bring all my synthetic Tees and hiking pants and wash them in a sink. Or find a laundromat with a bar next door.

Re: How do you do laundry on the trail? - this device looks

Twogone (Marc) and I once had a discussion about laundry. The amazing thing about it is how it multiplies. Dirty stuff takes more room to store. You can leave home with organized drawers/closets full of clothes and after awhile you have a pile of dirty laundry that needs storing somewhere and you still seem to have a drawer/closet full of clean clothes. Enter Trasharoo. We do similar to most folks and wear most things a few times and then hitting a laundromat, mostly just accumulating dirty underclothes and socks. The Trasharoo is a great place to store your dirty stuff. No smell in the van and it doesn't matter what the weather does to dirty laundry, mostly. We still put it inside a plastic bag in the Trasharoo but it works great as a storage sack. Also, shoes. The Trasharoo is a great place to store shoes. Size 13 shoes take up a lot of space. I usually have a couple pairs of flip flops/sandals, running shoes and hiking/camping boots or shoes. I don't have one compartment in the van that will fit all of this, but the Trasharoo handles everyone's shoes and dirty laundry to boot. I kind of wish I had two of these amazing things.

Laundry on a trip has never been a major concern for me, but I do like this. Thanks for posting.

Re: How do you do laundry on the trail? - this device looks

I have a custom spare tire bag that holds two 5 gal buckets and still has plenty of room left over for garbage. One of the buckets works well for washing cloths. I usually use the melted ice water out of one of the ice chests or stream water. I've also used the sink for smaller stuff but like others it takes being out at least two weeks before I have to wash and pack enough clothing for a good weeks run. Sometimes it's easier just to hit a laundry mat or even a car wash might do in a pinch when out for extended runs. I also look for laundry mats with public showers and knock out two things at once.

I can't wait to camp long enough to worry about washing clothes. Sounds nice. I changed socks last weekend, I think.
