Option four. Buy a 9 year old van for say around $2,900 then put a penthouse on that. You'll easily get ten years worth of use out of it.
This looks like a good possibility:
At the end of ten years buy a 2013 van, which will be cheap by then, and move the penthouse top over to the second van. It will fit since the van bodies are the same.

Thats a good idea if you need to replace it in ten years but it wont be with a 2013 Ford Econoline... The Transit is replacing the Econoline starting now. So after 51 years and four body styles the Econoline is done...Seems like if you found a good van you could keep it indefinitely... I kept my first van for 28 years and now my friend who bought it has had it 10 more...its still going strong...

I had a SMB w/ a rear dinette and contempo top. I am 5'11" and it was tight w/ the little woman (5'3") and a dachshund. Sleeping lengthwise would be much more comfortable and easier for middle of the night getups.
