Re: Making Espar-go

Hope Z doesn't mind if I butt in here with a suggestion. Couldn't you add a "T" connector between the pump and the fuel filter. Add a length of fuel line to the connector then run it to place under, or inside, the van that is easy to access. You can cap the line with a cut nail and a screw clamp. If there is a fuel starvation problem just remove the cut nail cap and attach a syringe. Use the syringe to draw the air out of the fuel line. Once all the air is out the fuel filter should be full so just cap the "T" line and start the heater.

I don't have an Espar but I do have a Webasto and had my own fuel issues. I haven't actually tried this out. Just an idea.

Making Espar-go

Do I give off an authoritarian vibe? Don't be shy.

It would be nice if the $1500 furnace just sorta worked better. In order to prime the pump I would disconnect the pump feed and suck on it until delicious diesel came out. At least I don't have to do that anymore, but it stll needs work.

Just trying to be polite.

I taped a length of clear hose to mine when I had to do it. Then I could see it coming.

Making Espar-go

Ran the Espar at 13000 feet today to see if it would run. The altitude compensator did its job--fired right up and ran fine.

If it throws an overheat code make sure something LIKE A MOUSE BUILDING A NEST isn't blocking the air intake

Re: Making Espar-go

I installed a 1-way check valve and so far, no issues with startup and low tank. Camping this week and will report back if it is successful.

The check valve was placed from tank to pump before the filter as shown above.

Below is the airdog that was placed by robs 4wheel drive in Clackamas, OR. They did high quality work with the custom bracket required for van application. They placed it inside my rear battery cage. You see it here behind the gas tank and the custom transmission secondary cooler. The airdog is on the chassis in front of my rear underside storage box.
