Re: Microwave

I was measuring and it looks like I have only 11" or 11.25 max of depth. I looked at the GTRV site and it looks like they let the micro stick out about a 1" or so so this would allow the door to open. I have found one so far and it is a GE. but its 13.25 deep. I talked to Mike @ GTRV and he says they use a Samsung micro but the ones I see listed are all to big.

Re: Microwave

I went with this one and couldn't be happier, especially for the price. It seems as well made or better than my Maytag in the kitchen, just a really small package. The door and latch don't seem as flimsy as my full size home model. I can barely fit a tall/large size coffee tumbler in it, but I can get it in there carefully. It may still be too deep for your space but is a great little microwave and runs fine off my inverter. Mine is set in the cabinet a half inch or so and the door swings open easily.

Here's what I would do, and what I did. Buy one from Walmart (or similar store) and experiment with it. Take it back if you don't like it or it doesn't fit. They are great for this. They'll take anything back if it's in good shape and you keep your receipt. I was not at all sure I wanted to go with a $50 microwave but it does fine and I couldn't find anything smaller. I put 2 folded towels in mine to keep the turntable from rattling when we're on the road and it works great.

Great ideas and advice 86Scotty and the rest of the group. I will run out to Walmart tonight.

I don't want a high dollar MW for fear of it going bad after a hellacious ride. But my cheapo is still going after all the jumpin & bumpin of off road travel.

My small GE microwave dates back to 2006 and has worked without any problems. It's just under 18 inches wide and just under 11 inches tall. Total depth is right around 12 inches. A portion of that 12 inches is a bulge on the rear that sticks past the cabinet sides.

Based on model I think it's 700 watts nominal, and power usage rating is .95 KW. I paid well under $100.

One downside to my GE is that it has a cooling vent on the side of the cabinet. I would think it's important to not box it in because it could lead to overheating. That might apply to others also.

Re: Microwave

Bought an Emerson .7 at Best Buy for $49.00 and it fits great. If it breaks no big deal! They wanted another $19.00 if I wanted a year warranty but I will take the big risk without it. The van does not have an inverter, I think I will add one now to run it on becuse of its low wattage. Thanks all for the help!

.....As you've probably already figured out, you'll need at least a 1000W inverter to run that micro....

The input power should be right around 1000W
