Mounting on wall

I have a piece of artwork i want to mount to the wall. its dimensions are about 14" Long by 4" High, and sticks out 3" probably weighs 2 lbs. it has 2 predrilled holes in it to mount it up with. Id like to hang it above the couch next to the fridge.

How thick is the interior paneling and can i mount to that? id like to make it as secure as possible without having to pull apart paneling to access the backside of it. Any suggestions on what type of hardware and length of screws to use?

You could potentially use a small toggle bolt like this:



That would allow you to mount to the wall without needing to get behind it. Just keep in mind that if you ever take the bolt out you will be dropping the back part into the wall cavity opening yourself up to a potential rattle.

Thats a good idea. It would be very secure. I wonder if there are any other ideas to avoid rattles down the road.

I've never tried it, but you could goop up the butterfly with construction adhesive/silicone before inserting and it might be enough to keep the butterfly glued to the back of the paneling even if the screw is removed later.

Edit: If you mean above the couch it's 1/4 or 1/8 paneling and the toggle bolt is about your best bet.

I don't like toggle bolts. If you remove the screw the toggle falls into the wall and is lost to lay there and rattle for eternity.

Much prefer drywall anchors (also called Molly Bolts). They fit into a hole and collapse the backside to lock the threaded part to the wall. Like these from Lowes:

The screw can be removed and the fastener stays locked in place.

They are available for various thickness wall.

Picture hanging adhesive strips might work as well. I've successfully used other command products in our rig. May be better suited for the space you're looking to hang the artwork.

Or take two 1x2 furring strips and glue them to the wall with construction adhesive, then attach your picture to them with screws.

Or, thinking outside the box, have the artwork scanned and get a reproduction printed out on photo paper, which will be a lot easier to mount!

I'd probably use scotch/3m hook/loop tape. They make some with the same adhesive used for body emblems & molding. Very good stuff with high temp tolerance. Has worked great for years on
My home made, heavy-ish curtains. If there's glass, I'd replace it with acrylic so it's not dangerous in an accident or if it falls.
