Plumbers Putty or Teflon Tape on Suburban?

Redoing my bypass fittings on the Suburban, just a technical question, can I use teflon tape or should I put back plumbers' putty? Please don't say something else because I can't endure another hardware store trip!

Old hardware was brass NPT new hardware is brass NPT bypass comes before the PEX lines in and out.

I would use teflon if you have the better yellow tape, otherwise use the thread compound. I've had problems with white teflon tape sealing.

Re: Plumbers Putty or Teflon Tape on Suburban?

I have had good luck with teflon tape any color for water. The trick is make sure not to let any tape get inside the pipe - don't put the tape all the way to the end of the threads. Also be carefull not to over tighten the fittings. The tape lubricates and makes it easy to over torque.

I think I saw something about never using plumbers putty for propane pipe fittings. 'Nuff said since you don't want to reconsider the adequacy of Teflon tape...

New sink drain: plumbers putty

brass fittings (non-compression): Teflon tape or equivalent (have also used a teflon product that comes in a paste in a "toothpaste tube".

If this is for a propane line, yellow tape, only.

Oooo - oops
Thought you were speaking of SMB installed Suburban furnace pipe.

Can't imagine why I would think that...

Got your answer then.
