Refrigerator door

Have a problem with the refrigerator door squeaking. It seems the door is slightly out of alignment ..anyway to tighten door by the hinges. Seems there is a little play and when going over a bump it moves slightly and then squeaks. Rather annoying when driving. Any suggestions would be appreciated. It is a norcold 4 cuft.

Re: Refrigerator door

I have had our 4cu.ft. fridge door apart after noticing play in the hinges. After taking it all apart I came to the conclusion that it had worn out and that structurally there isn't much to work with to strengthen it. I put some screws in some strategic places along the hinge side but it seems to only be a band aid. I've never been that happy with the Noisecold so maybe it's time to get another brand of fridge.

This probably wasn't much help but my advice would be to pull the door off and take off the trim pieces and see what's going on underneath.

Re: Refrigerator door

The boater in me says wrap a cam buckle strap around it and cinch it down tight when you're on the road. Without a doubt it's not an elegant fix but I bet it keeps it from squeeking while you drive.

I guess i'm only half joking. Cam buckle straps get a lot of use in different applications in my world.

Re: Refrigerator door

I think cam straps are underused in the world! Amazing what you can hold together with a few of them!

Re: Refrigerator door

The hinges have bushings, one of mine got replaced by the owner with a bolt, which of course meant drilling it out and ruining it. I got sick of it and replaced the whole bracket, which seems like the only way to get the bushing. That and I think there is some adjustment to the latch, but it's been a long time since I've looked at the N'rcold.

Part of me says just add a tension latch for driving.

Re: Refrigerator door

How about a Cummins conversion? That diesel engine will drown out the noise of any squeeky fridge door.
