SMB water system pressure?

Had a 1.5-2 inch section of 'blue' external water line develop a crack last month.

I had taken the van up to Mammoth Lakes and had forgotten to totally drain the water tanks/lines ahead of the trip. Temps were well below freezing so my assumption was that this oversight is what caused the crack.

I tried a home fix by grinding off the copper clamps from SMB and swapping in another piece of fresh 'blue' water line I had lying around. I secured the new section of hose in place with some standard circle clamps from the hardware store. Filled up the water tank and gave the lines a test. Despite tightening the circle clamps as tightly as possible, there was a lot of water coming out of the hose at the joint beneath the clamps.

This came as a big surprise and made me wonder what the internal PSI is on the SMB water system. Anyone know the stats?

Since my home fix failed, I'll need to have SMB build me a new section of water line that uses their standard high pressure copper clamps. No big deal, but a bit more time consuming and complex.

That blue stuff isn't high pressure pipe its PEX pipe. (I think the water pump operates at less than 5 PSI.) You can't use a standard hose clamp with it. Those copper bands are part of the PEX propitiatory system. Its real easy to work with if you have the banding tool. SMB has one they will loan out to you. I bought one ($$$) at Home Depot. If you want to borrow it I could ship it down to you, just send me a PM.

Charlie,
Many thanks for the info and the very kind offer.

I've already got the problem section boxed and ready to ship up to SMB so will go that route this time. But for future reference, I'll look into getting one of those banding tools myself.
