I talked with SMB earlier this week and have a little scoop....

The new StarCool (IV I think) is being tested. It has the ability to run on a Honda 2000 generator. It also will run on battery for 2 hours with no problems. This does bring the battery charge down significantly.

I did see the testing in progress a couple of weeks ago An RB50 was sitting in the sun on a hot day with the starcool cranked running off a Honda 2000. The van was chilly inside. (I am not sure if it was ok to peek in, but I did)

This sounds perfect to us. We will be carrying a Honda 2000, and if we stop for lunch 2 hours is more than enough time to eat and get back on the road.

SMB on order

Greg, I was there the previous day when they were testing the new system on shore power. With the top up, in the hot sun, the interior temp was 78. If the top was lowered, I'm certain the interior temp would have dropped to about 70.

Paul said they were still tweaking how much refrigerant to put in the system and the final result may be a little more efficient.

I, too, have a van on order with the new system and hope it works as well as the demo unit.
