Everybody's sense of smell can be different. To me vinegar is a sour smell where batteries off gassing is more of a rotten egg smell but battery terminal corrosion can smell slightly sour to me. I can't even explain the smell of the mouse invasion that happened to me several years back after a visit to The Grand Teton's. Took a full summer before that went away. Electrical (like hot circuit boards, switches and wires) also produces a specific smell that throws a red flag up for me.

The sour smells I've found in vehicles was usually caused by water trapped under carpet but most of the time you can trace it down. I'd be checking for water leaks. My sinks plumbing trap vibrates loose from time to time and when it's loose it drips.

Tell us what you find. Hopefully its something simple you've just missed.

If you haven't checked the batteries yet, I would definately do that.

Yes, check the batteries. FWIW, since you're in the bay area, and this is a camper van, it's not impossible that someone went nuts cleaning it with vinegar.

Vinegar is sometimes used to make black rock desert playa dust less sticky. It's not the best way to deal with it, and everything will stink of vinegar, but some people swear by it.

This was a 2007 picked up from Sportsmobile in Indiana late June 2016. There was no smell at the time and it's only been recent (September) that there is the smell more in the house portion of the camper. It's not a strong overwhelming smell, just annoying.

I checked the house batteries by sniffing in the area. However, I did not remove the cover.

I'll be at camp tomorrow so hopefully this will be solved shortly. I will report back on what we find out.

I took my Sprinter in for a few maintenance items relating to the house portion of my Class B. They informed me that the smell was petroleum from having the Sprinter parked for long periods of time. I would park it for a week or 2 in the sun and apparently the smell is from the materials used to build the interior of the home. I was told to keep the cabinets open when I parked for long periods. Hopefully this is the solution to my problem.

Thanks for all your help.
