Water pump question

Do you leave your water pump on all the time or turn it on and off only when needed?

The PO of my SMB always just turned it on and off immedately on use, but I can't remember why he said he did that...

I try to turn it on and off for use. We forget to turn it off, often. I don't really know if it draws any power when not pumping.

Water pump

Jage,
It's always a good idea to turn it off after each use. This will prevent the pump from coming on if there is a failure in the plumbing on the outlet side of the pump causing it to come on automatically and empty the tank and possibly ruin the pump by running it dry.
