Embarassing newbie question

OK, came home Friday night from SMB West after getting the mods done. Things checked out just fine up there. Now that I've been home and have had time to go through everything on my own, I can't seem to open the shore power connector cover. It's a stainless steel flip open cover that says MARINCO. I know it opens, as it was connected to power at SMB, and maybe it's just a VERY stiff spring loaded cover, but I don't want to break it either. Anyone have any advice?

Herb

Herb - Mine does the same thing. Sometimes it opens just fine, other times it doesn't. I haven't found anything holding it, and just said the hell with it one day and stuck a screwdriver under the lip and pried it open. It made a louder then normal snap and opened right up. The problem is still there on occasion, but I live with it as I rarely use the thing. Twas me, I'd just use a screwdriver, with a rag against the van body to protect the paint, and open it up. Do it slowly as it's all plastic. Sometimes it helps to push vertically down on the whole cap while opening as it seems to take some pressure off what must be the latch. Once you get it open, you can see where there is a little lip that acts as a catch. You could shave some of it off and that should help.
Good luck, and if it breaks, this message will self destruct and I'll deny ever writing it.

Thanks, I least I know I'm not the only one challenged by a simple mechanical device.

I'll give it a try Thursday when I come back fromt he east coast. Maybe I'll fire off an e-mail to Jonathan first to see if he has any inside tech trick first.

Scatter,

I'm finally back home (again) and tried pushing down on the top edge of the cover while attempting to open the cover. Opened very easily. Thanks for the tip!
