Our 2018 4X4 2500 HR is here!!

Hello everyone! I've been a Mercedes-Benz Tech for 13 years now and recently discovered how cool Sprinters are! We have always been Land Cruiser owners and are on our 5th one, (A 100 series this time).

My dealership doesn't sell, or work on Sprinters but our other dealership in Rocklin does and so the wife and I stopped by one weekend to look at them. The Sprinter Sales Manager was there on his day off and he spent the better part of the day walking us around and explaining the good options to order and what options are not necessary! He showed us his newly arrived 4X4 with dual sliding doors! I absorbed all the information with much excitement and when we got home I started building and editing, and building and editing until I was sure I built the perfect van for us!

I sent it to him for his opinion and he said it was perfect and let me know he had one slot left open for a 144" 4X4 and he sent my build to the factory and they had accepted it!!

The order was placed in January and it couldn't have been more perfect! The Sales Mgr text me and asked if we were home because he wanted to come "take a look at our Nissan Patrol" he has always wanted to see! Not too much later he arrived in the driveway with our girl!! What a nice surprise! It arrived at the dealership July 12, our 21st wedding anniversary!!!

It's a cargo and I optioned the heck out of it with the exception of all the windows, electric step, roof-top AC, and rear air and heat. I got a heated windshield, rear wiper blades, heated swivel seats.

The only option I couldn't get was orange seat belts! The factory wouldn't allow it with swivel seats.

We got the factory emergency flashlight and the wheel chock though!!

Better put your name in for the Sprinter Tech training and better decide if you like the commute to Rocklin, I see changes in your future!

We are in Walnut Creek now, but had an Auburn address (Bald Hill Road, just above Ophir) for years. I still have a brother outside of Penryn, so we are familiar with the area.

I know you were in Flagstaff at Overland Expo earlier this year, I'm guessing you have lots of ideas for the van that you are considering. The best advice any of us can give for right now is to get out and use it! That's the best way to determine your needs.

Congratulations!

LOL! Yes, because our Benz Dealership does not have the Sprinter Franchise I am not qualified to do warranty work on our girl!

Which I’m okay with because I know the Techs there and have no worries about their work!

In addition to that Mercedes-Benz is running a promotion right now so we got a 5 year/100K mile extended warranty! That’s pretty neat!

We didn’t get to attend Expo this year but we really like the interior kit from Adventure Wagon and the MOAB too.

We want to keep the factory panels but use the rest of their kit.

The last three weekend mornings we have come out in the mornings and sat inside with our coffees on the swivel seats and just talked and planned!!

Last weekend we took all the camping gear out of the Land Cruiser and put it in the Sprinter! With just over 100 miles on the odo we headed out for “her” first camping trip to a favorite area in Hope Valley. Engaged 4WD, made it to camp, there was thunderstorms, lightning, rain, then it cleared out to provide a nice sunset!

So we just had our Dometic 50qt freezer/fridge, Goal Zero Yeti 400, camping kitchen, and we threw an air mattress between the wheel wells!

Things we learned on this first trip-

1- Screens on slider and back doors= genius. (Thanks @gratefulpursuit for the informative post)
2- It’s dark without windows!
3- Motion sensor alarm works. Oops!!
4- Heated swivel seats are cozy with morning coffee.
5- The fridge will be raised to open from top with a hinged countertop.
6- Oddly we own a LOT of supplies that match the blue-gray. Meant to be!
7- She is awesome with steep grades and windy roads.
8- It’s nice to be able to stand up inside the rig.

Overall the first adventure was easy, exciting, and left us super optimistic. We are in love with Ellie3 and the possibilities for this build!

Thanks for looking!!
