AC and Air compressor

Has anyone had problems with small rocks getting in the ac and air compressor fans? If so, any suggested fixes? My problem occurs from driving on gravel roads with the tires kicking up small stones. I have thought about mud flaps or perhaps fabricating some kind of shield to protect the fans.

It might help if we knew a little more about your van:

- Make
- Engine
- 2wd/4wd
- tires used

Re: AC and Air compressor

I've had several problems with rocks I kick up coming thru the grill and putting holes in the A/C and/or radiator. If that's what you're talking about, The billet grill solves most of that problem. I've not had any problem with the tires kicking stuff up from below into fans.
If your concern is stuff under the rig, I solved most of my problems with dinged paint and "sand blasting" under the rig with mud flaps. I hate mud flaps, but I just had to do it.

And if you're talking about the Starcool unit behind the driver wheel...yes.

Re: AC and Air compressor

For grill I remove the grill and generally put 1/4" mesh on the back and then reinstall. On the SMB I didn't have the 1/4" so I doubled the 1/2" mesh, I think I've used regular bug screen as well.

Re: AC and Air compressor

I built these 1/4 inch mesh screens to protect the radiator and coolers. They keep out large bugs, butterflies and will stop rocks kicked up from the tires.

Re: AC and Air compressor

Thanks Guys, I have an 07 6.0 with the big BFGs. The rocks are affecting the Starcool AC fan and the air compressor fan both of which are underneath the van. I like the idea of fabricating a screen to protect the fans. Need to figure out how to attach it.

I've been thinking of adding some kind of deflector to keep the rocks out.
It's put in a poor spot behind the driver wheel...the tire even throws mud into the condenser/evaporator thing.
For now I just keep an eye on it.
