Speaking as a road racer... Properly valved shocks and springs have absolutely everything to do with vehicle handling. Thinking of shocks as "weight transfer timers" helped me tremendously when tuning my double adjustable racing shocks (compression and rebound velocity). On my JRZ's a single click of rebound on the front is easily noticed on track.

I self installed the full Agile RIP on my 2014 E350 soon after John Brindle joined them a few years back. Progressive front coils, rear add-a-leaf, de-arched platform spring and custom valved Fox 2.0 racing shocks on each corner. I have the V4 valving for vans under 8k lbs iirc, V5 is for heavier vans.
