Aluminess rear box feedback?

I am starting to work w/ the guys at Aluminess to get a box/swingarm that will work w/ my rear Ruenel bumper and on the driver's side since thepass side has the ladder already mounted nd the spare is underneath(hence no XL storage compartment). Currently I am on the fence between the std Baja box and the Galley box. I am trying to add some additional storage for misc stuff, firewood, etc..that I would rather not have inside the van, especially since I do not have the under floor storage. Would love to hear what box you guys have/use and if there is anything that has been useful or just a waste.

I like the Baja for the fact I could easily have a Jerry can for gas or H2O, but I like the forward opening door and size to fit a Honda 2000 generator.

See where I'm at? Both the extra jug and generator would be used very sporadically but they will be used on longer 3-4 day + trips.

Ask Aluminess about the new box they are going to make a standard offering...

It is supposed to be able to handle 3 Jerry cans and a Honda 2000 genertator both, with a beefed up door and swing arm.

That is what I am expecting to see on my Aluminess rear bumper in a few weeks....? ...months?

I find the Galley box meets my needs pretty well. I permanently keep a propane griddle, lantern, propane bottles, tarp, marshmellow skewers, hatchet and other misc. stuff in it. I have a plastic box that fits perfectly on top for firewood. I've never carried jerry cans and so far haven't missed them. If I start getting more remote for longer periods of time, that may change.

Everyone has their particular needs met in different ways.

The Baja Box works for me. I only need one jerry can, and the box holds sleeping bags, pillows and bulky items to keep the interior more manageable and less cluttered (which means more space for multiple camera systems).

If you put sleeping bags in the box how clean does it stay? Is it air/water tight?

Oh that's right.. somebody never gets their rig dirty!

No pics since we don't have it yet... our SMB is on order....

They also described it as having a better "seal" on the door.
...and that it is beefed up enough to have a rail on top of the box or to mount a bike rack on top.

I think they said that this will either be a new standard offering or it will replace an existing standard offering.

Up at SMB West, they have a Aluminess display box that has a much better seal design. The door and box have edges on them that actually overlap, as opposed to a flat door that kind of rests against the open edge of the box. I wish I had taken a picture of it to share.
the door also had a very different latch on it from what I remember (think fire truck / ambulance equipment door latch).

Hey, I have some pics of my rig actually dirty! Come on, I don't deserve that reputation!

The top of the Baja box is not well sealed. I have a little dust on the top of the cargo, but it is quite small considering what a dusty environment the box is subject to on dirt roads.
