Antenna Connector

Can anyone tell me what this is? They said it was a coupler for an antenna connector. What kind?

Looks like a quick disconnect air coupler. Does the top-most collar push down?

Yes. That’s what I thought too. It works like a aircoupler but there is a wire coming from it. Not a air hose

Looks like a quick disconnect for CB/Ham whip type antenna.

Quick disconnect for CBs... I had one back in the day. Push in and half turn to lock in the antenna.

Ok. Thank you so much. I guess I need to look for a connection somewhere in the dash area.

Pardon the ignorance. But what are cb radios used for nowadays and what would the benefit be of having one.

Just one more way to communicate. A lot of Jeep clubs use them. They're somewhat cheap but are subject to skip noise at times. When that happens there is so much noise they become almost useless unless you're very close to the person you want to talk with. On heavy freeways, using the designated trucker channel might get you traffic updates. I shouldn't say much about purchasing a radio that operates above or below the CB frequency range but they are out there. Once you slide out of the designated CB frequency, you can be in violation of FCC rules. To be serious you're better off with a Amatuer radio license

Amateur radio licenses are pretty easy to get these days, and you can run high power legally and generally use higher-quality gear. The 2 meter band, the most popular one for mobile work, is also a high enough frequency to allow for efficient antennas in practical sizes. (A quarter-wave CB whip is 8.5 feet long, on 2 meters it's under 2 feet.) Areas with repeater coverage can give you much longer range than CB allows.

Ultimately, though, it depends a bit on who you want to talk to. It might be worthwhile having a CB if you drive on active logging roads (which often have a CB channel posted), or regularly caravan with people who are CB-equipped.
