Any advice on buying this one?

Thank you for the great resource for a family getting into the sportmobile lifestyle! I test drove this one today and I want it. The question is a fair price. Any price ranges from people in the know more than I?

NADA lists Sportsmobile as a model but has incredibly inaccurate prices. I'm not sure they're wrong about this one though, I mean that thing is a classic, but not a classic if you know what I mean.

I would look at what else you can get in the 10K-15K range, a perfect example from the top:

2wd don't hold their value, and I've seen some really good rigs around that price range, and all much newer than 1993.

Yeah, $11k seems like a lot for a 1993 Dodge SMB. Dodge SMBs tend to sell for less than the Fords.

For camparison, here's a 99 Dodge RB50 that's newer, with less miles, for the same price (it's on the east coast, though): viewtopic.php?f=34&t=16069

I'll disagree a bit with Jage, in that I think 2WD SMBs pop-tops (not extended roof versions), Fords in particular, hold their value pretty well compared with their original price. Sure, 4WD vans command more, but they are also a lot more expensive to begin with. And you can easily add 4x4 to a 2x4 SMB if you want, as many have done.

Thank you both very much! The SMB is in really good shape visually but the price seems a little steep. I'll keep looking but in a small area Spokane choices are limited.

Slightly Off topic......My GF's friend owns the company (family business) that provides the data to NADA for RV's boats, etc......So I'll bitch at her the next time I see her

With specialty vehicles like Sportsmobiles, you will find that prices vary greatly depending on location. Since you are in a smaller market with hardly any that pop up in your area, the prices will most likely be higher. If you broaden your search and are open to traveling to find a good deal, you will most likely be able to find a better deal than the one you link. But if you're comfortable with paying that amount for that particular van and you are unable to travel to buy one, you should snatch up what is available to you.

If you do some more searching, you will find that the Dodge platform will generally sell for less than the Ford's. They're not as popular since they don't have as big of an aftermarket as the Fords. But if you're planning on keeping the suspension stock, then the aftermarket really wont apply anyways.

Price is too high. Buddy has a well running Dodge chassis- '89 for $4500. We found a '93 Ford with fewer miles and better condition for just a bit more.

Also, how tall are you? That side facing bed down low looks cramped.
