Anyone ever replace the second battery under van?

'03 7.3 psd

i figured after 9 years it was time to start replacing batteries.
i have the monster AGM and the the two factory.
i'm replacing the factory right now.
it appears that SMB West moved my factory underneath to allow room for AGM.
it appears that there is now a shared bracket with AGM and factory.
looks like a real mofo to remove.

anyone here done it?

yep, that sucked.
no real easy way to do it with basic hand tools.
right angle air ratchet is really needed.
real stupid design for owner maintenance.

I bought a transmission jack at harbor freight to lift the batt. down and the new one up. Have plenty of 2x lumber pieces for shims and plan on a lengthy job wo moving the van.

i didn't touch the AGM.
i was replacing factory batts.
weight wasn't the issue.
you can't get a wrench in there and move.

My 06 must be different, not easy and not fun but I got it done. Both starting batteries are under the van on the frame rail. They sit side by side to each other.

Dave,

Yep definitely different.
I had one under the hood, and one underneath in front of the AGM.

If you don't have the ability to replace the batteries under the rig, where is the best place to do it?
Do most places know how to do it?

Re: Anyone ever replace the second battery under van?

I have the ability, it is just a real stupid design for owner maintenance, unless you have air tools.
I highly recommend a transmission jack or a floor jack for holding up AGM.
Your set up might be different than mine.
